An Arajet Boeing 737-8 MAX, registration HI1078 performing flight DM-5801 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), was departing Toronto's runway 05 when upon rotation the tail contacted the runway surface. The crew stopped the climb at 7000 feet reporting they had a tail strike indication and returned to Toronto for a safe landing on runway 06R about 45 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported: "Maintenance inspected the aircraft at the gate, and found evidence of runway contact on the skid plate. A visual indicator on the skid plate, showed that the contact was minor and there was no structural damage to the aircraft. The flight was cancelled due to crew flight time limits."

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 15 hours, then departed again for the flight.
