A Renegade de Havilland Dash 8-300 on behalf of UNHAS, registration 5Y-SMI performing a flight from Maban to Malakal (South Sudan) with about 35 people on board, suffered damage to its gear struts on departure from Maban. The aircraft continued to Malakal where the crew entered a hold to burn off fuel. The aircraft subsequently performed a no gear landing at Malakal.

According to preliminary information the aircraft collided with a dyke on departure from Maban resulting in substantial damage to all gear struts, leaving only the struts of the hand main gear, though without the wheel assemblies, in place.

Maban Airstrip is located at N9.975 E33.75 and was location of another accident, see Accident: Coco South Sudan AN26 at Maban on Aug 28th 2017, runway excursion on landing, aircraft burned down.
