The Australian Transportation Safety Board rated the occurrence an incident and opened an investigation stating: "Upon touchdown, the aircraft aquaplaned towards the left side of the runway before the crew regained control."
Earlier that day most flights to/from Gold Coast Airport had been cancelled due to severe weather and lack of an instrument landing system available at the aerodrome.
