An Iberia Airbus A330-200, registration EC-MSY performing flight IB-6342 from San Salvador (Salvador) to Madrid,SP (Spain), was climbing out of San Salvador's runway 07 when the aircraft received a bird strike. The crew continued the climb, levelled off at FL340 and subsequently decided to return to San Salvador where the aircraft landed on runway 07 about 80 minutes after departure.

The flight, which originated in Guatemala City (Guatemala) with a planned stop in San Salvador, was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto the next day's flight.

The aircraft is still on the ground in San Salvador about 35 hours after landing back.

A passenger reported, they were told by an airline representative, the next day's flight from Guatamala City would be rerouted to San Salvador to pick them up, their flight had received a bird strike and engine (CF6) damage.

However, the next day's flight could not continue after arrival in San Salvador from Guatemala, too.

The passenger commented: "Now aircraft, crew and passengers from two flights are stuck in San Salvador." According to the passenger's information the second aircraft, Iberia Airbus A330-200 registration EC-MOU received an "alleged bird strike", too.

EC-MOU is still on the ground in San Salvador about 16 hours after landing, too.
