An Austrian Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration OE-LBK performing flight OS-776 from Skopje (Macedonia) to Vienna (Austria), was enroute and subsequently descending towards Vienna when the crew noticed an odour of wet socks of varying intensity, which became particularly pronounced during the descent with engines at idle thrust. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 34. There were no reported injuries.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Vienna for about 19 hours, then returned to service. The aircraft suffered another fume event on Sep 24th 2023, see Incident: Austrian A320 at Vienna on Sep 24th 2023, fumes on board.

According to information The Aviation Herald received maintenance found the smell like wet dog, old socks or old aircondition, with intensity up to medium, the strongest smell occurring with pack 1 operated with the engines at or near idle or engines off and APU running. No smell was observed with pack 1 off or engines at high power.
