A Thomson Airways Boeing 767-300, registration G-OBYF performing flight BY-577 from Phuket (Thailand) to Helsinki (Finland) with 302 people on board, was enroute at FL340 about 200nm west of Samara (Russia) when the crew shut the the right hand engine (CF6) down due to oil quantity indication, turned around and diverted to Samara for a safe landing.

The incident aircraft was able to depart Samara as flight BY-577 and reached Helsinki with a delay of about 18.5 hours. The aircraft subsequently positioned to Billund (Denmark) and resumed service.

Rosaviatsia reported that the crew shut the engine down in response to indication of falling oil quantity of the right hand engine.
