A JAC Japan Air Commuter Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A on behalf of JAL Japan Airlines, registration JA06JC performing flight JL-3760 from Nakatane to Kagoshima (Japan), landed on Kagoshima's runway 34 causing a serious injury to a passenger.

Japan's TSB reported a passenger received second lumbar vertebra compression fracture when the aircraft landed at Kagoshima about 20 minutes after departing Nakatane. The occurrence was rated an accident and is being investigated by the JTSB.

On Mr 30th 2023 the JTSB released their final report in Japanese (English version to follow in due time) concluding the probable cause of the accident was:

One passenger who was seated at the time of touch down suffered a compression fracture of the lumbar vertebrae due to the impact of landing. The weather at the time, the piloting operations and the aircraft did not contribute to the injuries. There is no reason for the injury.

The JTSB anaysed that the passenger had a history of compression fractures of the second lumbar vertebrae and usually wears a waist belt. However, to pass smoothly through security checks the passenger had taken off that waist belt and did not put it back on. The passenger was conscious of his seating position, but was asleep at the time of touch down. The actual vertical acceleration at touchdown was +1.53G. There were no anomalies with the aircraft and seats, and the landing was normal.
