A passenger reported there was an electrical burning smell on board, the first officer walked out of the cockpit through the aisle, returned to the cockpit, subsequently the crew made an announcement they were diverting to Shannon. After the landing the aircraft taxied to the apron, fire fighters entered the aircraft and walked to the back of the aircraft, then the passengers disembarked normally. The passengers were subsequently told an air recirculation fan was identified as the source of the odour.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Shannon about 4.5 hours after landing.
