An ATA Airlines Iran McDonnell Douglas MD-83, registration EP-TAM performing flight I3-6637 from Mashad (Iran) to Najaf (Iraq), was climbing out of Mashad when it was determined the aircraft had blown a tyre on departure. The aircraft entered a hold and returned to Mashad for a safe landing on runway 31R about 90 minutes after departure with emergency services on stand by. The aircraft stopped at the end of the runway, an emergency evacuation commenced (tail cone was also dropped) without injuries. The aircraft was subsequently towed to a hangar.
