A UPS United Parcel Service Boeing 747-8, registration N615UP performing flight 5X-77 from Shenzhen (China) to Anchorage,AK (USA), was enroute at FL310 about 100nm east of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk when the crew needed to shut the #1 engine (GEnx) down due to an engine oil filter problem. The aircraft drifted down to FL270, turned around and diverted to Osaka Kansai (Japan), about 875nm southsouthwest of their position. The aircraft landed safely on Osaka's runway 06R about 2:45 hours after leaving FL310.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Osaka about 15:45 hours after landing in Osaka.
