A Westjet Boeing 737-700, registration C-GVWJ performing flight WS-4020 from Calgary,AB to Fort Mackay,AB (Canada) with 64 people on board, had just levelled off at cruise FL350 when the left hand engine (CFM56) decelerated without command. The crew retarded the #1 throttle lever and brought it up again, the engine accelerated again and performed without further issue the remainder of the flight. The crew decided to divert to Edmonton,AB, declared emergency and landed safely in Edmonton about 25 minutes later.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance replaced the #1 EEC after extensive troubleshooting and analysis of the FDR. Following a successful test flight the aircraft was returned to service.
