A Lufthansa Embraer ERJ-190, registration D-AECE performing flight LH-1087 from Marseille (France) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was descending towards Frankfurt, when the aircraft did not descend below 5000 feet while already aligned with the extended runway center line and subsequently turned south on radar vectors due to weather. Numerous aircraft requested deviations around weather at the time. The Embraer was instructed to do two 360ies due to an ongoing emergency, see Incident: United B789 at Frankfurt on May 5th 2021, flaps problem, then descended to 4000 feet and joined the ILS for runway 25L. The crew subsequently reported they had received a lightning strike on final, continued for a safe landing on runway 25L about 30 minutes after levelling at 5000 feet and taxied to the apron.

A passenger reported the crew indicated they had aborted their first approach due to thunderstorms. On second approach they observed lightning near the aircraft and felt light rumble. The aircraft should have flown to Billund on its next sector, however, another aircraft performed that flight.

The aircraft was unable to continue its schedule and is still on the ground in Frankfurt about 9 hours after landing.
