A Cargojet Boeing 767-200 freighter, registration C-FGAJ performing flight W8-583 from Hamilton,ON to Calgary,AB (Canada), was climbing out of Hamilton's runway 30 when the crew selected flaps from position 1 to position up, however, received an amber EICAS indication "LE SLAT ASYM" (leading edge slat asymmetry). The crew stopped the climb at 6000 feet, entered a hold to burn off fuel, declared PAN PAN and requested emergency services on standby for possible hot brakes, used the alternative trailing edge flap system to extend the flaps for landing. The aircraft landed safely on Hamilton's runway 12 about 75 minutes after departure.
