A Gol Transportes Aereos Boeing 737-700, registration PR-GOW performing flight G3-1765 from Sao Luiz,MA to Sao Paulo Guarulhos,SP (Brazil) with 110 passengers and 5 crew, was climbing out of Sao Luiz's runway 06 when the left hand engine (CFM56) ingested two birds and began to severly vibrate. The crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet, shut the engine down and decided to return to Sao Luiz. The aircraft needed to enter a hold however to wait for better weather. The aircraft landed safely on runway 06 about 40 minutes after departure.

Brazil's CENIPA reported the aircraft sustained minor damage. The occurrence was rated an incident.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 51 hours after landing back.
