An Aer Lingus Airbus A330-300, registration EI-DUZ performing flight EI-9018 from Dublin (Ireland) to Beijing (China), was in the initial climb out of Dublin's runway 28 when the crew declared PAN PAN reporting a bird strike on rotation. The crew requested to stop climb at 3000 feet (QNH 1040, transponder altitude 2225 feet) and shut the affected engine (CF6) down telling ATC they were returning single engine with no fire indication. A runway inspection found a dead small bird on the runway. The aircraft returned to Dublin for a safe landing on runway 10 about 35 minutes after departure.

The aircraft was assigned to fetch medical supplies from China.
