A Westjet Boeing 737-800, registration C-GJWS performing flight WS-209 from Calgary,AB to Victoria,BC (Canada), was on final approach to Victoria's runway 09 desceding through about 1000 feet MSL when the aircraft received a bird strike. The crew initiated a go around, climbed to 3000 feet and diverted to Vancouver,BC (Canada) for a safe landing about 15 minutes after the go around.

The airline confirmed a bird strike on flight from Calgary to Victoria causing the cancellation of flight WS-220.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 53 hours after landing.

On Jan 16th 2020 the Canadian TSB reported: "During short final at CYYJ the aircraft encountered a flock of geese and struck approximately 10 of them. The crew executed a missed approach and diverted to Vancouver Intl (CYVR), BC. With ARFF on standby, the aircraft was given priority clearance and it landed without further incident. The aircraft nose cone had been punctured by the impact. There were no injuries."
