An Atlas Air Boeing 747-400, registration N418MC performing flight 5Y-551 from New York JFK,NY to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) wi, was in the initial descent through FL320 towards Chicago when the crew reported they just had a failure of their #2 engine (CF6, inboard left hand), no emergency, no priority and no assistance was needed. ATC told the crew they had declared emergency for them. The aircraft landed safely on Chicago's runway 28C about 40 minutes after reporting the engine failure.

A replacement Boeing 747-400 registration N412MC continued the next sectors to Anchorage,AK (USA) and Hangzhou (China).
