A Thomas Cook Airbus A330-200, registration G-OMYT performing flight MT-246 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Orlando Sanford,FL (USA) with 338 people on board, was enroute at FL370 over the Atlantic Ocean about 2 hours into the Atlantic crossing when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (Trent 772) down and diverted to Keflavik (Iceland) for a safe landing about 2 hours later.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration G-TCCA resumed the flight 29 hours after landing and is estimated to reach Sanford Airport with a delay of 32 hours.

On Nov 6th 2012 The French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that the aircraft was enroute at FL370 when a sudden failure of the #2 engine occurred prompting the crew to descend the aircraft and divert to Keflavik.

On Nov 16th 2012 the Canadian TSB reported the #2 engine had stalled with indications of high N2 vibrations. The crew executed oceanic contingency procedures (including declaring emergency) to descend from assigned flight level without clearance, the #2 engine was brought to idle then shut down and the aircraft diverted to Keflavik. The engine was replaced.
