A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700, registration N738CB performing flight WN-811 from Baltimore,MD (USA) to Punta Cana (Domincan Republic) with 90 passengers and 5 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 30nm west of Norfolk,VA (USA) when smoke emanated from a galley prompting the crew to divert to Norfolk for a safe landing on runway 05 about 20 minutes later. Emergency services boarded the aircraft and found a burnt coffee pot in the galley, the fire had obviously extinguished itself.

A replacement Boeing 737-700 registration N7874B reached Punta Cana with a delay of about 105 minutes.

The airport reported the aircraft experienced a small fire in the galley, the coffee pot was on fire. The fire probably extinguished by itself, fire fighters found the burnt coffee pot, the fire was already out.

The airline reported the aircraft diverted due to smoke in the cabin, the coffee pot needs to be replaced.
