An American Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration N773AN performing flight AA-141 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 168 passengers and 13 crew, was enroute at FL380 about 90nm northnortheast of Shannon (Ireland) when the crew decided to divert to Shannon due to the captain's windshield having cracked. The aircraft landed safely on Shannon's runway 24 about 30 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N765AN positioned from New York JFK to Shannon and resumed the flight from Shannon to JFK as flight AA-9240 and is estimated to reach New York with a delay of about 21 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 22 hours after landing.
