A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-200 freighter, registration TC-JDS performing flight TK-6554 from Istanbul Ataturk (Turkey) to Entebbe (Uganda), was climbing out of Istanbul's runway 05 when a bird impacted the aircraft. The crew continued the climb in the absence of any adverse effects and was enroute at FL300 when a windshield cracked. The crew descended the aircraft to FL110, burned off fuel and returned to Istanbul's old Ataturk Airport for a safe landing on runway 05 about 2:50 hours after departure.

A replacement A330-200 freighter registration TC-JDO reached Entebbe with a delay of about 5.5 hours.

Istanbul Ataturk Airport closed for all commercial flights on Apr 6th 2019, when Istanbul's new International Airport opened, with the exception of cargo flights, state and diplomatic flights (as well as general aviation, air taxi and business flights).
