An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N398AN performing flight AA-989 (dep Aug 11th) from Miami,FL (USA) to Montevideo (Uruguay), was enroute at FL330 over the Caribbean Sea about 160nm northeast of San Andres (Colombia) when the crew decided to return to Miami due to a hydraulic failure. The aircraft descended to FL320 and landed safely back in Miami about 3:40 hours after departure.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N350AN reached Montevideo with a delay of 10:45 hours.
