An Emirates Airbus A380-800, registration A6-EDO performing flight EK-242 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Dubai (United Arab Emirates), was climbing through FL250 out of Toronto about 20 minutes after departure when the crew declared PAN PAN reporting they needed to shut the #2 engine (GP7270, inboard left hand) down. The aircraft dumped fuel and returned to Toronto for a safe landing on runway 33R about 2 hours after departure.

On Jul 26th 2019 the Canadian TSB reported the crew declared PAN PAN with the #2 engine shut down about 20 minutes after departure.

The airline reported the aircraft returned due to a technical fault.

The #2 engine was replaced.
