A United Airbus A320-200, registration N426UA performing flight UA-1695 from Seattle,WA to Newark,NJ (USA) with 139 people on board, was climbing through 2000 feet out of Seattle's runway 34R in night time conditions when the crew declared emergency reporting they had just hit something, subsequently reporting they had a bird strike at the left hand side. The aircraft levelled off at 4000 feet and returned to Seattle for a safe landing on runway 34R about 13 minutes after departure and taxied to the apron.

A replacement A320-200 registration N441UA reached Newark with a delay of 2.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service after 82 hours on the ground.
