A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700, registration N924WN performing flight WN-390 from Burbank,CA to Oakland,CA (USA), was on final approach to Oakland's runway 30 when the crew reported a flock of birds at about 1000 feet AGL and suffered a bird strike. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 30 and was vacating the runway via taxiway W5, when the crew reported the bird strike appeared to be worse than initially thought, they had lost their nose wheel steering and needed to stop on the taxiway. The next arrival, landing about a minute later, reported seeing not a single bird.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service after about 18 hours on the ground.
