A Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration VN-A393 performing flight VN-587 from Kaohsiung (Taiwan) to Hanoi (Vietnam), was on approach to Hanoi cleared for the ILS approach to runway 11L when the aircraft joined the ILS for runway 11R. Descending through 800 feet AGL tower noticed the aircraft was on the wrong approach and instructed a go around, the aircraft went around, positioned for another approach, this time to runway 11L and landed safely on runway 11L about 10 minutes after the go around.

On May 6th 2019 The Aviation Herald learned that the crew had departed Kaohsiung's runway 09 and had tuned the LOC for that runway at frequency 108.3MHz for departure. The frequency remained selected throughout the flight. Hanoi's ILS runway 11R also has frequency 108.3MHz, the autopilot thus automatically picked up the ILS for runway 11R.
