A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N187DN performing flight DL-106 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was enroute at FL350 about 150nm east of Boston,MA (USA) when the crew needed to shut the right hand engine (CF6) down. The aircraft turned around and diverted to Boston for a safe landing on Boston's runway 22L about 40 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N171DN reached Frankfurt with a delay of 10.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Boston for 71 hours, then positioned back to New York JFK,NY (USA) but has not yet returned to service 94 hours after landing in Boston.
