A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration TC-JOA performing flight TK-748 from Istanbul (Turkey) to Mahe (Seychelles), was enroute at FL350 near Cairo (Egypt) when the crew became concerned with the left hand engine (CF6) oil indications. The crew subsequently drifted the aircraft down to FL250 and decided to divert to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), where the aircraft landed safely on runway 34R about 2:10 hours after the first indications.

Passengers reported they noticed the aircraft began to drift down from FL350 while over Egypt but continued its planned route. Then a pronounced turn to the left occurred, the captain announced they would divert to Jeaddah due to a small technical problem. The aircraft landed on Jeddah's runway 34R with the usual receiption committee awaiting the aircraft, the aircraft vacated the runway and was examined. The aircraft taxied to the gate, the passengers observed a lot of binding materials were put underneath the right hand engine and work commenced on the right hand engine. The passengers subsequently disembarked and were asked to wait inside the terminal, there was no coordinated information, there was murmur amongst the passengers about engine problems. A few hours later they were issued Visas and were taken to hotels. The following day a replacement Airbus A330-300 registration TJ-JOE arrived and delivered them to their ultimate destination Moroni (Comores) via Mahe with a delay of 27 hours.
