A United Boeing 737-700, registration N27733 performing flight UA-786 from Santa Ana,CA to Newark,NJ (USA), was in the initial climb out of Santa Ana's runway 20R when the crew reported they had a low engine (CFM56) oil indication, would continue the climb but wanted to divert to Los Angeles,CA (USA). The aircraft stopped the climb at 7000 feet and diverted to Los Angeles for a safe landing on runway 25R about 20 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the captain announced shortly after takeoff that they had a low engine oil pressure indication and were diverting to Los Angeles. Following inspection by maintenance crews, that included an overweight landing inspection, the aircraft was returned to service with a fresh crew and reached Newark with a delay of 5 hours.
