A China Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration B-18353 performing flight CI-947 from Kaohsiung (Taiwan) to Hong Kong (China) with 262 people on board, was enroute at FL340 when the crew received an excessive cabin altitude indication, donned their oxygen masks and initiated an emergency descent. The aircraft continued to Hong Kong for a safe landing.

The French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that the aircraft had been dispatched under minimum equipment list requirements due to the right hand engine's high pressure bleed air valve not opening. The passenger oxygen masks were not deployed, according to the pilots the cabin altitude reached a maximum of 13,000 feet.
