A United Boeing 737-800, registration N14240 performing flight UA-1946 from Boston,MA to Newark,NJ (USA), had lined up Boston's runway 33L for departure and was cleared for takeoff from runway 33L when the crew reported they needed to taxi off the runway. Tower cancelled the takeoff clearance and instructed the aircraft to taxi down runway 33L hold short of runway 27 (tower needed to repeat the transmission on request by the crew), the instructions was properly acknowledged.

A Jetblue Embraer ERJ-190, registration N206JB performing flight B6-1154 from Washington National,DC to Boston,MA (USA), was on short final to runway 27, when tower instructed the B738 again to hold short of runway 27, about 5 seconds later again quite agitated "hold short runway 27", the crew replied "we are short of runway 27", tower instructed B6-1154 to go around however.

The E190 positioned for another approach and landed safely on runway 27 about 13 minutes after the go around.

The Boeing 737-800 returned to the apron, was able to depart later and reached Newark with a delay of 4:20 hours.

Boston Airport reported the United Boeing had entered the protected area of runway 27 which triggered an alarm in the tower, as result tower instructed the arriving Jetblue flight to go around as a precaution. The United actually did not reach the edge of runway 27.

United reported the Boeing stopped to avoid snow on the tarmac, the go around by Jetblue was unrelated and coincidental.

According to the Satellite Photos by Google there is no hold short line protecting runway 27 on the south side on runway 33L towards the threshold (however, there is a hold short line on the northern side). Similiarly, runway 33L does not have a hold short line in the east towards threshold runway 27, while there is a hold short line on the western side.
