An American Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration N760AN performing flight AA-142 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to London Heathrow,EN (UK) with 203 people on board, was enroute at FL390 about 140nm northwest of Shannon when the crew noticed a discrepancy between fuel computation and fuel gauge indications and decided to divert to Shannon advising ATC of a possible fuel leak. The aircraft landed safely on Shannon's runway 24 about 30 minutes later.

The fuel gauges were found in disagreement with the fuel. The aircraft was able to depart Shannon after about 2:45 hours on the ground and is estimated to reach London with a delay of about 2 hours.
