A United Boeing 737-900, registration N78438 performing flight UA-1435 from Cleveland,OH to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), was on approach to Chicago's runway 27L when an engine (CFM56) ingested a bird. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on runway 27L.

The FAA reported the aircraft received minor damage.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 18 hours, then resumed service.
