An Air Canada Boeing 767-300, registration C-GLCA performing flight AC-476 from Toronto,ON to Ottawa,ON (Canada) with 184 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Toronto's runway 06L when the left hand engine (CF6) began to surge, streaks of flames were observed from the engine exhaust. The crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet and returned to Toronto for a safe landing on runway 05 about 35 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance advised the engine had been nearing its schedule to be replaced, following the incident the engine was replaced.
