An Icelandair Boeing 757-300, registration TF-FIX performing flight FI-204 from Keflavik (Iceland) to Copenhagen (Denmark), was climbing out of Keflavik cleared to climb to FL350, when the crew requested and was cleared to level off at FL240. A few minutes later the crew requested and was cleared to climb to FL280, during the climb the crew requested to descend to FL200 and return to Keflavik, amending the request to descend to FL120 and being cleared to FL100. The aircraft returned to Keflavik for a safe landing on runway 20 about 50 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration TF-FIO reached Copenhagen with a delay of 5.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft departed for a test flight about 6 hours after landing reaching FL410 and returning to Keflavik about 38 minutes after departure for the test flight. The aircraft subsequently resumed service without further incident.
