A Jazz de Havilland Dash 8-100, registration C-FGQK performing flight QK-8733 from Quebec City,QC to Montreal,QC (Canada) with 9 passengers and 3 crew, was in the initial climb out of Quebec when the crew noticed the left hand engine (PW120A) indicated 165% torque with all other engine parameters being normal. The crew reduced the power on the left hand engine, but the torque indication remained static. The crew shut the engine down and returned to Quebec City for a safe landing about 20 minutes after departure.

The Canadian TSB reported the left engine's torque indication reached 165% with all other engine parameters indicating normal and remained stable despite the crew reducing engine power. The crew therefore shut the engine down.
