An Avianca Airbus A330-200, registration N342AV performing flight AV-929 from San Salvador (El Salvador) to Lima (Peru), was enroute at FL390 about 100nm west of San Jose (Costa Rica) when the crew decided to return to San Salvador due to a hydraulic problem. The aircraft landed safely back in San Salvador about 100 minutes after departure.

The aircraft underwent maintenance for about 4.5 hours, then departed again and reached Lima with a total delay of 6:45 hours.

The airline reported the crew decided to return due to indication of a hydraulic problem, the landing back in San Salvador was normal.
