A Fedex Express Boeing 777-200, registration N853FD performing flight FX-90 from Shanghai Pudong (China) to Memphis,TN (USA), was enroute at FL310 over the Pacific Ocean about 250nm eastnortheast of Tokyo (Japan) when the crew received a cargo fire indication, turned around, descended the aircraft to FL300 and diverted to Tokyo's Haneda Airport for a safe landing on runway 34L about 50 minutes later. Emergency services found no trace of fire, smoke or heat.

The airline confirmed a cargo fire indication, there was no fire however.

Emergency services reported that after unloading the cargo and opening a container there was smoke, the container and its contents were foamed.
