A Hainan Airlines Boeing 787-800, registration B-2750 performing flight HU-498 from Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) to Beijing (China), was enroute at 11,600 meters about 120nm north of Harbin (China) when the crew received a smoke detector indication in the passenger cabin and decided to divert to Harbin, where the aircraft landed safely about 25 minutes later. No trace of fire, heat or smoke was found.

The smoke indication was identified false. The remainder of the flight needed to be cancelled nonetheless.
