A Loganair Saab 340 on behalf of Flybe, registration G-LGNJ performing flight BE-6997 from Edinburgh,SC to Shetland Islands Sumburgh,SC (UK), was enroute at FL130 about 40nm southeast of Kirkwall,SC (UK) when the crew received a magnetic chips detector indication for one of the engines (CT7), reduced power on that engine, consulted with company maintenance and subsequently decided to divert to Kirkwall for a safe landing.

A replacement Saab 340 registration G-LGNN continued the flight to Sumburgh and delivered the passengers to their destination with a delay of about 80 minutes.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Kirkwall for about 17.5 hours, then ferried to Glasgow,SC (UK) for further maintenance.
