A Thomson Airways Boeing 787-800, registration G-TUIC performing flight BY-83 from Montego Bay (Jamaica) to London Gatwick,EN (UK) with 301 people on board, was enroute at FL410 over the Atlantic Ocean about 400nm eastsoutheast of Gander,NL (Canada) when the crew observed the left hand engine (GEnx) rolled back by about 30-40% N1, a short time later the crew received an EICAS message "L END THU EICAS". The crew declared emergency and decided to divert to Gander. The left hand engine recovered while the aircraft descended through FL340, the crew continued the diversion. The aircraft landed safely in Gander about 90 minutes after initiating the diversion.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance replaced the left hand engine electronic control unit (ECU).
