An Aer Lingus Boeing 757-200, registration EI-LBR performing flight EI-110 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Shannon (Ireland) with 115 people on board, was climbing out of New York when the crew requested to level off at 16,000 feet due to a technical issue subsequently reported they had lost a hydraulic system and hydraulic fluid. The crew worked the related checklists, advised ATC that the hydraulic fluid might well contaminate the runway, and decided to return to New York. The crew advised that they won't have nose wheel steering on landing, the gear doors will remain open and they were going to land at a slightly higher speed than normal and they needed to be towed off the runway, the crew stated they were not declaring emergency however requested emergency services on stand by due to the hydraulic fluid issue, the landing gear doors open and the slightly higher than normal speed. The aircraft landed safely back on JFK's runway 22L at a slightly higher speed than normal about 70 minutes after departure, hydraulic fluid dripped onto the right hand brakes causing a small fire which was quickly put out by emergency services. The passengers disembarked via stairs and were bussed to the terminal, the aircraft was subsequently towed to the apron.
