The French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin, that the occurrence was rated a serious incident and is being investigated by Germany's BFU.
On Feb 16th 2016 Germany's BFU reported in their September bulletin, that upon departure from London Heathrow the crew observed the smell of oil. When the smell intensified the crew changed the cabin air supply from pack 2 to pack 1, which resulted in a brief improvement. When the smell worsened again, the crew returned to pack 2, the smell again reduced. About 45 minutes after departure, already in the descent, the captain felt dizziness, nausea and heachache. The captain decided that both crew would don their oxygen masks and decided to perform an automatic landing. Following safe landing both crew went for a medical checkup.
The BFU reported that examination of the engines revealed oil residue on the inlet guide vanes and rotor blades of compressor stage 5 of the right hand engine (PW4158).
