Zest A320 enroute on Jul 7th 2015, lost 6000 feet of altitude due to autopilot disconnection

An AirAsia Zest Airbus A320-200, registration RP-C8992 performing flight Z2-885 from Seoul (South Korea) to Manila (Philippines) with 76 people on board, was enroute at FL360 about 100nm south of Jeju (South Korea) when the autopilot disconnected. The aircraft climbed to about FL366, the speed over ground reduced from 430 to 340 knots, the aircraft subsequently descended rapidly to FL300 reaching 500 knots over ground, then the aircraft stabilized again, climbed back to FL360 levelling off at 460 knots over ground, and continued to Manila for a safe landing on runway 24 about 2:50 hours later. There were no injuries.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Manila 3 weeks later.

On Jul 28th 2015 the French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin, that there were no injuries and the aircraft did not sustain any damage, when an autopilot disconnection with altitude change occurred in cruise flight. The occurrence was rated a serious incident, loss of control, and is being investigated by Philippines Accident Investigation Board.
