A Fedex Federal Express McDonnell Douglas MD-11, registration N624FE performing freight flight FX-5193 from Osaka Kansai to Tokyo Narita (Japan) with 2 crew, was descending through about FL100 about 40nm before touchdown when the crew reported the tail mounted engine (#2, PW4462) needed to be shut down due to vibrations and an increase in exhaust gas temperature. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Narita's runway 34L about 15 minutes later.

Japan's Ministry of Transport reported an initial inspection of the engine identified damage to the engine.
