A Spirit Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration N524NK performing flight NK-695 from Baltimore,MD to Las Vegas,NV (USA) with 146 people on board, was enroute at FL340 about 80nm southeast of Kansas City,MO (USA) when the captain became ill. The crew decided to divert to Kansas City where the aircraft landed safely on runway 19R about 25 minutes later. The captain was taken to a hospital together with a passenger who also reported feeling unwell.

The airport reported the captain's symptoms are believed to be caused by gall stones.

The occurrence aircraft was able to continue the flight with a replacement crew after about 6 hours on the ground and reached Las Vegas with a delay of 6:10 hours.
